All packaging used by the bottled water industry must be approved by Health Canada under Canada's Food and Drug Regulations.

Of adults who purchase bottled water, 70% do so as an alternative to buying other packaged beverages, not as an alternative to tap water.

Members must adhere to the CBWA's stringent Bottled Water Model Code, Bottled Water Food Safety Practices, CPO Program and Audit requirements, as a condition of membership.

Independent market research firm A.C. Neilson has identified bottled water as costing 36 cents per litre (2011), or about 18 cents per 500 ml bottle.

In Canada, bottled water is regulated as a food product by Health Canada, through the Food and Drugs Act, and inspected by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

CBWA’s Annual Canadian Bottled Water Convention

The CBWA’s Annual Canadian Bottled Water Convention, is a forum that delivers information on relevant issues within its program focused solely on the bottled water industry in Canada. Participates have direct access to wide-ranging educational opportunities as well as information and contacts necessary to assist in the innovation, enhancement and improvement of bottled water safety, quality, sales and efficiencies.
